Rapid prototyping at H T Brigham adds value for customers
The benefits of 3D printing have been widely reported; fast, low-cost and kind to the environment. This rapid prototyping allows working concepts to be ruled in or out more quickly, speeding up the development process and reducing the project lead time as a whole.
Celebrating 70 Years of Presswork Success
Birmingham metal pressing manufacturer, H T Brigham celebrates 70 years in business this year. The company was established in 1947 by Hugh Terrence Brigham who, with just £80 start-up capital, operated a single hand-press from a garage shed in Birmingham, delivering components locally using his motorcycle and sidecar. He was paid £9 9s 8d on the completion of his first order.
H T Brigham’s in-house tool room, staffed with our expert team of toolmakers, is fully equipped to conduct regular maintenance for all existing and new production tooling, to ensure that component manufacture is as seamless and efficient as it can be for our customers.
Though perhaps not front of mind, it is vital that you consider the issue of tool maintenance when selecting a metal pressings manufacturer, since inadequate tooling can result in a number of negative impacts. Downtime can cause delayed deliveries and missed deadlines, both of which have cost and customer-care implications.
To minimise these risks, our regular preventative tool maintenance schedule incorporates ...
Reconditioning and sharpening
To facilitate the manufacture of top quality metal stampings
Using customer component design data or reverse engineering, we swiftly replace any broken or worn die components
When an update or change is needed, our technicians will re-manufacture dies to exacting specifications
Taking a preventative approach, we pay close attention to die design, setup procedures, tooling design and maintenance best practice. For example, over a period of time cutting sections and punched edges tend to deteriorate or break down causing defects in parts such as burrs or feeding issues. Regularly scheduled periodical sharpening of metal stamping tools prevents problems such as these arising, as well as their knock-on effects of wasted resources and their associated costs.
‘Common sense’ tool maintenance measures, such as the regular cleaning and inspection of dies to identify any loose fasteners, broken springs, insecure cutting punches and so on will ultimately prevent interruption of manufacture.
Our customers can rest assured that, as a market leader in metal stamping, H T Brigham takes production tooling maintenance extremely seriously and is committed to keeping your components running off the press and exceeding expectations at every stage of the process.
